... the dramatic pause

I am terrible at communicating. I am sure anyone who knows me can verify that I don't check my voice mail, I don't call back, I can't seem to send things through the mail to save my life. So this an attempt to keep those who care updated.....with recent goings on. Blog on and unite the world.

nickdavis: The Raconteurs (via nickdavis)   For those of you who don’t know who this is…let me enlighten you.  This is Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs.  He is the other lead singer with Jack White (who everybody knows).  He has a very heavy influence on the sound of this band and it is just perfect.  He also has a solo career and is truly a wonderful song writer…. and he looks like a lion.  Major plus because lions are fierce.  He is so calm and cool when he plays that is just seems like we are witnessing him jamming out in a garage somewhere and he is letting us watch.  Jack, on the other hand, is the very maticulous raw kind of rocker.  He has thought out every move, every finger, every detail.  Their opposites create a wonderful blend of two different worlds that keep their music honest, pure, unexpected and totally freakin’ rocked out awesome.  Not to mention, that this is my new FAVORITE  concert t-shirt…. ever.  Nick got a press pass to be three freakin’ feet away from the band with total access to the front of the stage for the first three songs.  He got some amazing pics.   My favorite part of the night….  when Nick came back to meet me after those three magical songs and the look of utter childish joy spreading across his face.  We decided why musicians are so much cooler than movie stars…. b/c we can get close to them.  We can pay money and get to see famous people in our own city actually doing what they are famous for…. in the flesh. This was an unforgettable night.  We are SO lucky…. we like good music.

Emma on Crazy Clothes Day copy (via academydancekc)
Ok so today is crazy clothes day at Emma’s school.  You would think this outfir would be easy…but apparently she was not easily satisfied with her clothing choices because they weren’t crazy ENOUGH.  Emma was very serious about pattern, color and which items would best NOT go together.  Go figure.  This is the final outcome… and… she seriously wanted me to get her a prize for being the MOST crazy.  “You know we could just go to toys r us and get a small present.”  The child is mental.  I love her crazy thoughts…maybe she was just really acting the part for this “crazy” day…. because she is talking a little crazy!

Mike Doughty - “Fort Hood” (via )

I’m glad he got fed up with the petty BS going on with the  primary.  Will we be able to wait until January for something to be done about the war?

My Uncle Ralph...

My Great Uncle Ralph is my Grandpa Serpe’s brother. Both my grandparents have passed and he is all that is left as a wise grandparent figure for me. We had quite a scare that we could lose him far too soon in my eyes. Heart trouble and pneumonia are not a wonderful mix…. but I am happy to report he is on the mend and soon to being out of the hospital and chasing the ladies. My children were also very distressed about his being so ill and have grown very fond of Uncle Ralph. They have been able to get to know him much more than they ever got to know my grandparents before they passed. Here is a great picture of my Uncle Ralph from Thanksgiving 2006. Thank you powers that be for leaving him with me.

Starbucks could do better....

So Starbucks is participating in Earth Day… it would be a serious PUBLIC mistake if they didn’t.  Here is their statement:

In case you can’t read that it says:

“In celebration of Earth Day, On April 22nd, for every purchase made with a Starbucks Card, Starbucks will donate 5 cents to Conservation International.  Every $10 donated equals 10 trees planted in Chiapas, Mexico.”

Ok- so that’s great and all…but you are freaking STARBUCKS!  Come on- make a REAL difference man!

How about you (yes you Starbucks mecca) not use a single paper cup,  paper sleeve, or plastic lid for the whole day?

Imagine it…..

That’s right….no paper for the whole day.  The only coffee being served at Starbucks for the whole day has to be served in a real bonafide cup.  They could even encourage you to bring in your own.  Ceramic, glass, stainless.  How cool would that be?  I’ll tell you…it would be freaking awesome.  Their “forward - thinking - earth - loving c.e.o.s” would look like bright green saints as soccer mom’s weep at their feet shouting jubilant praises of fancy coffee justification… “see, I KNEW Starbucks was PERFECT! I want MORE.” The media would eat. it. up. cha-ching.  (what is a little earth exploitation if it actually does some good?)

It seems kind of win-win to me…. Starbucks saves money on paper goods for the whole day… around the world (as in Earth- get it Earth…Earth Day) and they make a statement about their concerns on contributing to our constantly growing waste problems.  That statement being, “We are Starbucks… and we freakin’ care man.”

If they really REALLY REALLY care- they would donate all the money saved from the non-paper use and give THAT money to Conservation International… but that is going way too far… maybe some day Starbucks.  I still love you.

They should hire me…I am a friggin’ GENIUS.

Unfortunately- Nick thinks my whole idea is stupid and this post is a waste of time.  He says it is unrealistic and would never work.  Starbucks wouldn’t turn people away who didn’t have their own cup and wouldn’t have a way to wash all the real cups that they would have to rent…. but I also have to think of rainbows and unicorns to get back to sleep when I have a bad dream…. I never said my thoughts were realistic or that they always made sense.  Lighten up man…this is a blog.  I just want people to think a little.

Digeridoo

This was Dale’s second piece in the concert. We are kinda like little quirky aliens in this dance. What are we wearing? Oh, yes… that is me in a unitard… on the internet… for the world to see…. and not only that…this is a photo of my ass in a unitard… on the internet…for the world to see…so I figured I would post it so everyone knows that I know it’s there. Once you stop staring at my butt you will see that the photo is really cool.
